If you put it in the ACS directory you have the advantage of separating whatever happens with the balance of the system and the ACS installation. Aside from the extra storage (minimal) I like beign able to separate the two.

Exactly how I solved it.

You shouldn't need to load your JRE in the ACS directory. If you have to re-install ACS for any reason you'll likely forget this and go thru this again.

Just make sure your registry is clean of any oracle/java entries, you can use find on regedit...back it up first..

and make sure you are 32 or 64 bit on all java products..cannot mix it

If it still points to an Oracle instance your registry needs cleaning or your have it somewhere in the path or java.home...

Sorry Jeff I meant java.home

Here is what my ACS looks like..

java.version: 1.8.0_192
java.vendor: Eclipse OpenJ9
java.home: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk8u192-b12\jre
java.fullversion: 1.8.0_192-b12
JRE 1.8.0 Windows 10 x86-32-Bit 20181120_72
OpenJ9 - 090ff9dcd
OMR - ea548a66
JCL - 7397e61374 based on jdk8u192-b12

Solved:

First make sure the downloaded and expanded JRE/JDK is in a directory
that can be found at boot time. IE: "C:\java\....."

Then make sure to add the JAVA_HOME and/or JRE_HOME environment
variables Then make sure to alter the PATH environment variable to
include the java directory.

Reboot

Now the "java -version" will work.

I get that there is no windows installation script for this so you
have to set the path to the jre.
I'm pretty sure that if you put the jre directory in the directory you
have ACS in, the native launcher programs will use that JRE automatically.

If I CD into the .bin directory where the java.exe lives and run
"java -version" it just hangs.

Any thoughts on that
Antivirus software, maybe? Maybe windows is asking if it's OK to run
the program?
