I get that there is no windows installation script for this so you have to
set the path to the jre.

When I do that is does not find the java command as a valid command.

If I CD into the .bin directory where the java.exe lives and run "java
-version" it just hangs.

Any thoughts on that

I must be dense. That's what I did, then selected the "Download JRE"
button. The zip file is:

OpenJDK11-jre_x64_windows_openj9_11.0.1_13.zip

which, when extracted, creates folder:

OpenJDK11-jre_x64_windows_openj9_11.0.1_13

which in turn contains folder:

jdk-11.0.1+13-jre

which contains folders bin, conf, legal, and lib, as well as a file
named release.

This should not be that hard.

That's the JRE. You'll find java.exe & javaw.exe in the bin directory.

You won't find javac.exe or any of the other tools required to develop java.
