The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.

It's not so bad now with PASE and open source.
Even so, a purpose built IDE is much better than a generic editor.
With jEdit, Atom, or any other GUI editor, you *STILL* need a workstation ... why not do the hard work on a workstation (which is going to be faster) with an IDE that supports immediate compile, syntax checking, context hints, debugging, etc.
Add to that, if someone has RDi for RPG, Cobol, & Cl development ... they automatically have a very rich Java development environment.
IMO, there's no way to justify doing java development directly on the i if you have RDi (or just about any of it's predecessors).
