My need is to interpret the final PCL file to archive the file for later use. Converting the source spooled file does me no good, from a business records perspective.

I know there isn't one currently built in to the platform; that's why I'm working on writing one.

Correct, it is in ASCII PCL format. I need to convert this to a PDF
file, somehow.
I am familiar with Java so it's my first option. I had hoped to find a
native process in OS/400 that can perform the conversion, but no such
luck just yet.
As far as I know there is no PCL _interpreter_ available on the IBM i,
capable of converting to a pdf, but plenty exist on a Windows or Linux box.

In V6R1 you can ask for PDF as output format in addition to PCL, but you
need to have the original print to be able to do so.
