Quick question on this. Is 5769-AS1 part of the 3.0.2 WebSphere product? It
seems to be loaded with OS/400 from the installation CD even on V4R5. I was
under the impression that 5769-AS1 and the corresponding QAPPSVR library are
the "base" portion of WebSphere on the AS/400. Am I correct in that?

The adminclient doesn't require the QEJB library. You require the correct
version and edition of the WebSphere Application Server product for your
workstation platform in order to install the Administrator's Console option
(adminclient) so that you can administer your WebSphere Application Server
product running on iSeries 400. The adminclient requires that a matching
version and edition of WebSphere Application Server administrative server
be running on the system you wish to administer. The adminclient does not
care if the QEJB library exists or not. However, since QEJB is the product
library for WebSphere Application Server v3.x Standard and Advanced Edition
for iSeries 400, you will not have an administrative server running on a
system that does not have the QEJB library (i.e. the administrative server
job cares about the QEJB library).  Try not to think of QEJB as standing
for anything having to do with enterprise JavaBeans. Its just a product
library, like any other product library.

STANDARD EDITION PRODUCTS AND PRODUCT LIBRARIES
5769AS1  WebSphere Application Server v2.0.3 Standard Edition product. Its
product library is QAPPSVR.

5733AS2 (V3R0M2) is  WebSphere Application Server v3.0.2 Standard Edition,
56-bit Encryption  product. Its product library is QEJB

5733AS3 (V3R0M2) is  WebSphere Application Server v3.0.2 Standard Edition,
1282-bit Encryption  product. Its product library is QEJB

5733AS3 (V3R5M0) is WebSphere Application Server v3.5 Standard Edition
product. Its product library is QEJB

I have a client who has WebSphere Application Server (5769AS1) installed on
a V4R4 machine, and all the group PTFs, but there is no QEJB library.  This
doesn't make any sense, since WAS3.0 requires the QEJB library in order to
run the adminclient.

Now, the only difference between this setup and the ones I am used to is
the
fact that this client does NOT have WebSphere Advanced Edition installed
(5733WA3).  It gets a little confusing here, because AE is required for EJB
support, but we don't need EJB support, we need the adminclient.  But, as I
pointed out, the adminclient requires the library QEJB.

Is this an unfortunate naming convention?  Or does QEJB only come with the
advanced edition, thereby making it required in order to run WAS3.0 of ANY
edition?

I am soooo confused.
