Yes or no, it's up to you. Yes, there is a JVM on the AS/400 and it will
used to run process that use the AS/400's cpu. These applications can
access AS/400 data directly, or they can call "native methods" that would
be existing AS/400 applications to update data.

Same as above, although I am not sure about making a remote method call to
an existing AS/400 app. I know this is supposed to be workable, but I
haven't seen this coded before so it's a mystery to me.

IBM provides 100% pure Java methods for accessing all AS/400 objects. The
toolkit objects are Java, so they will run on a PC, a Java workstation, or
on the AS/400. Your choice.
