I am sorry to have not been active on this list, but I have been going
through a move to California and haven't had time.

Yes, some people are using Java, and VisualAge for Java is a great choice
for a development tool. 

To use Java with the AS/400 you need the JDK for the AS/400 which you can
download from Hursely or you can get it with V4R1. You will probably want
to get the AS/400 toolbox which is also a free download. Plus the JDK for
whatever machine you are developing for. 

If you would like more details, let me know and I will take some more time
with my next post!
