I've been looking at VA for Java, and I really like it. I've also looked at Sun Workshop, and it doesn't seem as good. IBM's really done their homework, I think. To use Java on the 400 you need to get the Java Virtual Machine, etc. You can download the beta from <http://ncc.hursley.ibm.com>. This is an IBM research facility in England, working on Java for all kinds of IBM platforms. Versions are available for v3r6, v3r7, and v4r1. You'll also need the Common Programming API (CPA) Toolkit, which is also available at the above site for v3r6 & v3r7. They forgot the version for v4r1 but will have it there in a couple of days, they said. It's a small thing, but it's pretty neat to make a 'Hello World' app on the PC and then copy it to the 400 and run it there, too. The main thing I've had to watch out for is that I specify an environment variable, CLASSPATH, properly. BTW, VA for Java doesn't create Java classes until you take the Export option from the File menu.
