Tom,

As of today, there is no JVM on the AS/400. It can serve Java byte
codes, but it can't run them. It will happen, but it's not here yet.
I've been playing with Visual Age though, and it looks to me as though
it has real promise. The enterprise version will ostensibly build a
three tiered client server app via point click an drag. The programmer,
of course must provide the business logic. Given what I've seen in the
professional version, I believe it can. Given the problems I've had with
maintaining monolithic PC apps distributed around the world, I must
believe that there is a very real advantage to writing thin client
applications. I'm planning on being ready when Java is.
