RE: loading code400 on PC -- CODE400-L

Obscure isn't the word for it.  I'm not sure at all which acronym matches the 
product I am using.  When I choose Help->Product Information I get a box that 
declares it: IBM Websphere Development Tools for iSeries Version 5 Release 1 
Modification 0.  Does this make it WDT/i ????

I had to go looking for the Project Organizer in the file system to run it (no 
icon/shortcut was created) and when I did I saw a rather unattractive 
interface, could get no clue on how to use it (or what it's even for), and 
haven't run it since.  So I think we must have different versions.  I really 
only needed the editor and the debugger (which do work very well -and compiling 
works with no problem) so the rest is not that important, so far, but sill I am 
curious.

Does this SP#5 refer to WDT/400, or is this for WDS/400, or is it for WDSCi?
Just want to be sure I am not missing something.  The version numbering and
product identifying is almost as obscure as the location of the fix packs,
so one is never totally sure what to install.  I have WDSCi installed on my
PC, which has a fast processor and skads of memory, and so far I have been
able to edit just fine.  I have not, however, gotten brave enough to attempt
any screen design, let alone compiling... But THAT interface for the WDSCi
seems very nice... Lets you look at just about EVERYTHING in one project
organizer, whether from local machine or from AS/400 library.

Also, when installing Websphere on PCs with OS other than Win2K, NT, or XP
don't forget to keep the path statements short.  Not sure why IBM has relied
on this to ensure a successful install (it seems quite unfair) but it DOES
seem to go much better when it is short.

I could not get CODE to run on my PC either until after I installed Service
Pack #5. I can't remember what error I was getting, may have been the same
as yours maybe different. But I would recommend that you install SP5 and see
if that makes a difference.  Now as to finding the SP5 download page: good
luck!  IBM couldn't have done a better job at obscuring its location even if
they had intentionally done so.

through so many hoops and dead ends to find it:

Good luck on getting CODE to work but it's definitely worth the installation
woes. I have configured PDM to send my source to CODE instead of SEU when I
use the edit and browse options, and intend to have it call IDEBUG instead
of the AS/400 debugger as well.  I really don't think the learning curve is
bad at all (the default profile mimics the SEU keystrokes which help in
adoption, but can be changed to your preferences once you feel comfortable
with doing that.
