My last 24-hr. shop didn't run BPCS, but the biggest single issue we had
regarded backups.  We paid mucho dinero to get a tape drive that minimized
the 'lockup' time on the databases.  You should be able to do inquiries, but
might have issues, depending on your CL code in the backup procedure,
accessing your data while the backup proceeds.....

we are contemplating adding a graveyard shift. this would mean that we would
need to have BPCS available on a 24 hour basis for inquires, inventory, and
labor posting. we need to run MRP and several other batch jobs that access
the BPCS files each night.  plus we need to do the daily data base backups
on the as/400.

who has experience with this type of an environment? can you share any
thought, what to do's, or what not to do's?
