The other less expensive alternative to mirroring is to use data collection
software such as RTDCS, which will store transactions outside of BPCS and
than sync them when BPCS is available. This will allow to do a normal
backup, while still post inventory and labor transactions, not sure about
inquiries. You still need to define time for month-end and system
maintenance and full system backup.

Subject: 24 hour operation

we are contemplating adding a graveyard shift. this would mean that we would
need to have BPCS available on a 24 hour basis for inquires, inventory, and
labor posting. we need to run MRP and several other batch jobs that access
the BPCS files each night. plus we need to do the daily data base backups
on the as/400.

who has experience with this type of an environment? can you share any
thought, what to do's, or what not to do's?
sincerely
