You must put A in the field data type.

I am trying to modify the length of a *USRDFN field from length of 50 to
49. The field is not part of a data model but when I do a Y in the Char
field beside the field define in the action subroutine where it is defined
and go to the "Field Characteristics" screen it won't accept the change. I
put a "-" sign in the field data type then put 49 in the Length and press
enter--I get an error that says "Invalid Field Type".

Any pointers?
