Larry and Pete,

I' m reading between the lines here. It looks like the Power8 will no longer support loops, GX++ is gone.
Will there be a new loop, or are the days of loops gone?
Some sort of new drawer will be provided, but will it attach directly to a PCIe X 16 slot.

There are no GX slots on POWER8, only PCIe. As a consequence there is no way to connect any 5802 or 5877 drawers to POWER8. This enables PCIe x16 slots to be directly controlled by the processor improving performance there.

It has been suggested that there will be drawers at some point that support PCIe cards but they are not announced and will not be GX attached. HSL last attached to POWER6 and 12X Last attach to POWER7.

More shocking news, some POWER7 gear not supported.
Am I reading this correctly, my Power7 5877 drawers are not supported.
I didn't expect this.

Clients migrating from earlier generation servers may have been using I/O drawers such as the GX++ attached feature 5802 or 5877 PCIe 12X I/O Drawers with PCIe Gen 1 slots. Though most PCIe adapters in the feature 5802 or 5877 drawers can be moved to this server, and its disk drives converted and moved to the feature 5887 EXP24S drawer, the feature 5802 and 5877 drawers are not supported on this newer Power Systems POWER8 technology-based server. Similarly, the GX++ attached EXP30 Ultra SSD Drawer (#EDR1 or #5888) is not supported.

The older 3.5-inch-based feature 5886 EXP12S SAS Disk Drawer and feature 5786 EXP24 SCSI Disk Drawer are not supported.
