OK, so I am finally doing the update to my HMC.

I ordered the DVD's and applied the update to get to v7r7.8.0. Then I applied the update to go to SP1.
Now I am trying to apply the MH updates that come with v7r7.8 and they are failing to apply. It appears there are some pre-requisites that I was unaware of
and the message tells me to look at the HMC log to see the details.

But I don't know how to view the HMC log.

Can anyone tell me? BTW, I am running the HMC remotely so I only have web access, and I have configured it for remote access and terminal access. But I don't see how to see the HMC log.

Any help?

P.S. The MH updates are MH01388, MH01396, MH01403, and MH01404.

This is getting curiouser and curiouser.

Using DSPFMWSTS on my v5r4 partition, I get...

Display Firmware Status

Service partition . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Firmware update policy . . . . . . . . . . : *HMC
Server IPL source . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Temporary
Firmware product ID/release . . . . . . . . : 5722999 V5R4M0

--Server firmware-- -Operating system--
Fix PTF Fix PTF Update
Copy pack ID pack ID Status
*ACTIVE SF240_403 MH01231
*TEMP SF240_403 MH01231 SF240_338 MH01053 None
*PERM SF240_358 MH01088 SF240_338 MH01053 None

How can it say Service Partition Yes, and also have the Firmware update
policy be *HMC?
There must be some distinction, no?

But at least it confirms that the HMC is controlling the FSP updates,
not PTFs on the Server. So, then how did my FSP apparently get out of
sync with HMC and Power 7 box?

BTW, the DSPFMWSTS command isn't available on our v5r3 partition, and I
can't even get to our Power 7 server to see what it is set at.

Thanks for the advice.

Fix Central is one way.

HMC, Updates, Select server, Change Licensed Internal Code for the current
release . That should be your 'HMC Change Internal Code Wizard'

While you are in "Updates", look at the level of your hmc code. Look at
the level of your firmware. Compare that with

Also, DSPFMWSTS on all lpars should never show
Service partition . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
If you have a HMC.
