You hit on the whole issue. When a person has served faithfully forsome years, is it right that their reward be to be laid off for younger& cheaper worker? When a company can cut their health care cost by 60%by keeping a young and never-sick staff, should they? Should a personbe fired for being sick? Should a worker be fired on his 40th birthday?

Are you suggesting that the only changes were the replacement of 9programmers? And that the result was a change from losses to profits?
May I add this? Sometimes a team gets fat, dumb and happy. Ford Motoris laying off 30,000 people and closing 10 plants. One of the reasonsgiven is the abnormally high cost of an entrenched work force. Healthcare costs are becoming punitive unless a company has a young, neversick work force.
