8 programmers and 1 release engineer were laid off and the total number of
folks in the buiding is now about 30 folks.

I can't speak to why it happened but we made $ and are (currently) a software
company with 90% iSeries customers.

Those fat, dumb, and happy folks will appreciate that. Their fat/dumb/happy
kids may have to pay their own way thru college now as the fat/dumb/happy folks
try to pay their mortgage.

Something is not right. The prez of my company and other senior managers make
nice bonuses whether we do well or not. Selling out their fellow americans to
make more for themselves or to reduce the bottom line to sell the company seems
to be what they're all about and maybe it's the american way. It's not the
america that I want though.

On top of that the overseas folks come here to be trained by us.

This situation has to change, cause I'm feelin a little fat/dumb and happy
myself.

Are you suggesting that the only changes were the replacement of 9
programmers? And that the result was a change from losses to profits?

May I add this? Sometimes a team gets fat, dumb and happy. Ford Motor
is laying off 30,000 people and closing 10 plants. One of the reasons
given is the abnormally high cost of an entrenched work force. Health
care costs are becoming punitive unless a company has a young, never
sick work force.
