One of the benefits of IWS for iSeries shops with an active group of RPG
programmers is that IWS gets them in the web services game fast and in
style. They interact with all the other skill sets out there in a
well-regulated and secure way.
Another benefit is that IWS, in my opinion, is a good way to keep the
business rules in place without having to transfer the business rules
into every other programming language that comes along.
And too, implementing IWS means we don't have to join the religious wars
raging over Python, PHP, JavaScript, .net, and on and on. The
programmers with those skills are instantly on board as part of the
team. That, to my mind, is a really big win for a large organization.
