In Java to expire a session you can use the HttpSession.invalidate() method.
This is normally used when a user logs out.

But, yes, setting the <session timeout> will expire sessions after X amount
of time.

Thorbjoern just explained the <session timeout> tag in the web.xml file.
Is that the way you expire sessions?
