I noticed that book there but was a bit concerned because of the
"datedness". I have read horror stories of the prior versions of WDSC and I
wasn't sure of the book's relevance.

If you're wanting to learn to use WDSC for web development, I recommend

you

go to http://www.mc-store.com/5066.html and purchase Joe Pluta's WDSC
Step-by-Step book. It's only $25 for the next few days and IMHO will be
money well spent. It is based on a prior version of WDSC but I think it's
close enough to the current version that you can figure out the

differences.
