Joe, Just to keep things straight and accurate I did not say "RPG-CGI is superior to Java". While I have my own opinions on the subject that is not what I said in my post. What I did say was the following: " People when given the choice of developing in CGI or Java, based on our experience, 95% of those iSeries users have selected ILE RPG-CGI. This is based on our experience of 1,200 iSeries sites making that choice." This is not saying that either is superior. With WebSmart people have the choice of either, plus AJAX, and more. In addition, my statment said that people prefer to develop in ILE RPG-CGI over Java, based on our experience of over 1,200 iSeries installations, for the following previously stated reasons: "Why such a big lean towards CGI? Our experience: Numerous RPG based development shops find it easier to get their web applications to market, they're more comfortable with ILE RPG-CGI than they are with Java, they can preserve their existing iSeries back end system investment and they can keep their existing staff who know their business and systems involved in the development of their new web systems. I can go on, however, I'll stop here." Joe, people can retarget to Java in the future if they so chose if they chose. Just wanted to keep what was being said about my comments straight and accurate. Eric's statement was, as you've indicated, a vendor response to a specific question which has historically been acceptable here in David's lists. The only part I objected to was when he started enumerating the reasons why RPG-CGI is superior to "Java". Among my many reasons is that a JSP Model II approach uses almost zero Java; certainly nothing more complicated than what most web solution vendors use in their own JavaScript. But to go into that particular discussion in the same thread as the vendor's product has a tendency to turn the thread into a discussion of the product rather than the architecture. Anyway, enough said. No offense meant, just wanted to clear up my position.
