Joe - I posted the response for Eric after Bob's statements left it unclear as to who owned which product. At the time he was not properly registered on the list. The words are Eric's, but I made it clearthat a sales pitch is not allowed. I do beleive that other vendors, including yourself, have made statements defining their products, and defining major differences. I've learned
a lot from previous posts by yourself and others when studying products. To indicate a product generates java vs rpg is not a sales pitch by just that statement of fact. I have no desire to get into a benefit analysis of one way or the other, and for the sake of this list, I think that analysis should come from users of a product and how
they implemented it, not from vendors.Since their product does generate either java or rpgle, he did indicate which way most of their customers have chosen. If that's an advertising statement then I'll apologize for letting it thru - because I do hate it when adverts creep into the list.
This entire thread started with a request for comments about Websmart.... imho: Anything else really should be a new thread. jim franz----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Pluta" <joepluta@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I'm unsure why Eric was unable to post this message himself. But in any case, can we try to avoid turning vendor advertisements into architectural pronouncements? If anybody wants to debate the merits of Java vs. RPG-CGI, that's fine, but I don't want to do it within the confines of a vendor presentation like this thread; it ends up sounding like a slam against the vendor. It's especiallyawkward when the vendor is posting second-hand messages. JoeFrom: Jim Franz for Eric Figura Why such a big lean towards CGI? Our experience: Numerous RPG based development shops find it easier to get their web applications to market, they're more comfortable with ILE RPG-CGI than they are with Java,-- This is the Web Enabling the AS400 / iSeries (WEB400) mailing list To post a message email: WEB400@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/web400 or email: WEB400-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/web400.
