Okay, I'll ask again.  Have you written any JSP/servlet applications which
use a thin JSP layer over RPG business logic?  If you use JSP for nothing
more than presentation (converting EBCDIC to ASCII and the like), it's
blindingly fast.  The code gets compiled down to machine level and it's
really quite spectacular.

Take our just-released AIRPort project as an example.  I use a combination
of AJAX and JSP to create a portal framework that is incredibly fast.  We
just released the alpha proof-of-concept version at SourceForge (you can get
it at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/airport).  Of course, as I type
this the SourceForge website is having some serious technical difficulties.

wrote for MCPress Online (the second one has the code available for

I'll put a back end process on this and see how it fares, but my guess is
that it will still be pretty quick.  And the nice thing with this approach
is that it really lends itself to paging.
