* If yes - you can install both and run them parallel (with different workspaces) or switch between both versions (using the same workspace).

I would recommend against switching back and forth between versions with the same workspace as you can run into odd issues. A better plan would be to export your Remote Systems artifacts and import them into a new workspace for RDI 9.8

Hi Doug,

I will be upgrading my Rational very soon to the current release. I am now running 9.6.0.12 20220812_0616

Do you mean, upgrading to version 9.8?

If yes - you can install both and run them parallel (with different workspaces) or switch between both versions (using the same workspace).

Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of things to do beforehand? I
remember reading awhile ago about Snippets going away. How would those be
handled? Is there anything else working differently?

You should look up your installed plug-ins (e.g. iSphere). But right now, all plug-ins should be updated to be compatible 9.8.

Also be advised, that the "Snippets" feature is gone from 9.8 - but you can install it from the Eclipse Marketplace with the right URL. (see tips and tricks below)

Also, in terms of Snippets, does anyone know a way to Export all of them at once, or can that only be done one at a time.

No need to - if you use you old workspace (or a copy of it) you Snippets will be there, once you have installed the feature from Eclipse Marketplace.

Is it possible to have two versions of Rational installed on my PC just in case the update fails?

Short answer - yes - both can even run parallel at the same time when using different workspaces.

If you like, take a look at my blog - where I compiled the process of getting up and running with RDi 9.8.

The tips are also for 9.8.0.2 - and will most probably also be applicable to upcoming releases.

HTH and kind regards,
Daniel
