Windows Extract-All will work just fine BUT one has to cognizant of where it is extracting to as it will tend to add the zip file name as a directory so if you extract to C:\<your-dir>\ then it will give you “C:\ <your-dir>\Rational Developer for i\Rational Developer for i <all-the-stuffing>” which can make the library too deep as the extract does everything absolute. So it will work, with caveats …

And yes, re-extracting the zip clean will work, trying to tinker an install that has who-knows-what done to it back to life is dubious at best and likely not to succeed.

The best way to update is to go to Help>Install New Software and UN-chect the option “Contact all update sites …” then select the “Rational Developer for I update site” in the “Work with:” drop-down and update that way. Sometimes going to the Manage… screen, selecting the update site and clicking the Reload button will help find updates if nothing is being found.

Just my CAD$0.02 (that rounds down as we don’t have pennies), Mike

I had the same issue Greg. Nothing I did would make 9.8 work.
Fortunately, I had retained my 9,6 version. I explained the problem in a
ticket to IBM. I showed them the error messages I was receiving. The only
"solution" they had was to uninstall 9.8, reinstall it, apply the fix pack,
then load any plugins. No one explained what the errors meant. No one
seemed to care that a full reinstall would take valuable business time.
They just didn't seem to care. Because the fix pack destroyed 9,8 and I
wasn't getting any real help from IBM, I'm in the process of reinstalling
9,8, while using 9.6 for business. I've gotten to the point where I'm able
to install the fix pack on a refreshed 9.8. Now I just need to see if the
plugins will work with the new version. This never happened to me with any
previous version of RDi and it just seems like the IBM development team
doesn't care and didn't test this so-called fix before throwing it out.
IBM used to give stellar help. Now, they've gotten as bad as Microsoft.

I tried to run the update using "check for updates" on Friday. It
failed... so I just went on about my business.

This morning, when I started RDi I'm getting errors in every view/window:

Remote Systems: "Could not create the View"
Editor: "No editor descriptor for id com.ibm.etools.systems.editor"

Error log show "Invalid input
url:platform:/plubin/com.ibm.etools.iseries.rse.ui/icons/full/eview16..."

Any suggestions??

The fixpack is now available. The Fix List will be updated soon with
details of the enhancements and fixes:
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/fix-list-rational-developer-i

Within RDi, click Help > Check for Updates and follow the prompts.

Alternatively, you can download the fixpack and install it manually. The
download link is
