Hi Thomas,
Quite right. It is yet another case where the bold statement of “it doesn’t work” is not a clear problem definition and a reminder that being concise in the problem statement and providing an example or steps right off would lead to a faster solution?

Almost correct. It seems to work for standalone fields but not for sub-fields of data structure:
// @ignore-unused
dcl-s unusedField char(10); // works
// @ignore-unused // does not remove unsed markers of the $$fkey sub-fields
dcl-ds *N;
scrnFKeys char(18) dim(32) inz; // this field is used
// @ignore-unused
$$FKey01 char(18) pos(1); // $$fkeys are unused and the marker cannot be removed
$$FKey02 char(18) pos(19);
Thomas.

If you add a comment line before the unused use with @ignore-unused it does not supress the blue bang for the unused symbol?
Like:
// @ignore-unused
dcl-pr TESTDBG end-pr;
