For me, Cygwin has always been in an uncanny valley between Unix and
Windows. I didn't like it even when I was actively using and enjoying Unix.
Cygwin was, for over 25 years, the only way to make Windows useful for
portable development work. It's a monument to the creativity of its authors
and contributors and to the Free Software movement in general.
