Yes, I like that.  I agree that there are multiple responses that could be made available.  Anything besides just sitting in a connection retry loop with no recourse.

Retry gives us the time needed to connect  the connection(s) we intended to make, and then we can click the Retry button. Or, we could work offline.

A possible compromise would be that after an initial connection attempt that the tool pop up a window that asks "Do you wish to mark all your connections offline?" That would be a good thing to have. ...
