I've noticed that it appears to go through this spasm for each source that is open for edit but is not connected.

So, another shortcut might be "Connection x is not open; would you like to close all sources for connection x? or retry? or work offline?"

Retry gives us the time needed to connect  the connection(s) we intended to make, and then we can click the Retry button. Or, we could work offline.

A possible compromise would be that after an initial connection attempt that the tool pop up a window that asks "Do you wish to mark all your connections offline?" That would be a good thing to have. ...
