I'm in a 1 developer shop and in my opinion, RDi is worth every penny because it saves so much time and makes my job easier and more productive. Once upon a time we were a 3 SEU developer shop but now with RDi I can be just as productive than when we had 3 developers using SEU. It's seems the smaller the shop the more valuable RDi is. I tell my company RDi is a must or else. :-)

But as suggested an RDi Lite might be usually for students...

From my point of view, a small shop with 1 or 2 developers, the cost is pretty steep. The old model linking to the model size really worked for me. So the price was low for P05 systems and affordable. With the current pricing by IBM, I am at an extreme cost disadvantage at a cost of $1,000 per year plus per seat. This is the same cost as the big systems pay.

Everyone and IBM wonder why nobody wants to pay for RDI especially small shops and individuals. Students coming out of college cannot afford to gain entry to the IBM i space.....

Microsoft has the visual studio that anyone can download and use. It does not have all the functionality but you can begin developing at a low cost.

RDi needs a similar offering. To grow the system, you need the college kids have free/cheap access to the IBM i.
