**free, a.k.a. total punch-card FREEDOM, will be 4-year this Feb/2018

The old /free has been around since last century, 1994 on the discontinued/unsupported OS/400 V5R1M0. Almost 22-Years old! Over 2-decades!!!

And yet, developers still develop in punch-card format, because they are "used to it".

It never ceases to amaze me that a few in I.T., are so technology resistant.

PS. I have several previous OLDER boss tell me NOT to use anything "NEW", until it has been out for at least a decade. No lie! <Shock>

I got certified in ILE RPGLE last century, before I was allowed to use it. My boss demanded that I code in older RPG/400 fixed format.

Because it would be too hard for the Older developers to read "free-Format" code. Most who were former COBOL developers. She signed my pay-check, so I did as my boss demanded of me. This was of course last Century, when the OS/400 was still supported. At the time we were stuck on old 13-inch tube screens. (Last century) And using the expanded format was "too hard" to read. Wow!

That is no longer the case today for me! <Joy Joy>

Hard to believe, but the iPhone is only about six months older than RDi.

Happy birthday!

If memory serves correctly, this was the first incarnation of the
unbundled product, which required a separate licence. (It's
forerunner, WDSc 7.0 was part of the server-bundled software,
5xxx-WDS.

There's no shame for not being around when we had to pay for Code/400
in
the OS/2 era :-)

A decade has flown by - and we're _still_ trying to convince folk to
adopt it!
It's often said that people are averse to change, yet 10 years ago,
who had a
smart phone? Today, who doesn't? Progress sometimes requires that
people be truly convinced of the value proposition, and sometimes all
it
takes is 'everyone else is doing it'. Progress will come, as more and
more of
our sisters and brothers see, and try RDi.
