Dave,

Cool! I increase my own source files to 262. My code can only be open in RDI. <evil grin>

It "forces" me to use my beloved RDI 9.5.1.2.

I never forgot, an old developer who was OUTSTANDING at SQL. And I asked him how he got so good...

His reply, do you know "WRKQRY". NEVER USE IT again! Only use SQL. And you will be FORCED to learn how to do in sQL...

I do NOT mean this to knock down the tool, "WRKQRY". But, I followed his advice. And now I am pretty good at SQL, but still learning more. Fossils "stop" learning. I am no fossil! <smirk>

And IBM with IBM i 7.3, finally allowed us to go past the Punch-Card-Column-80 with the latest release!

So, now in embedded SQL in SQLRPGLE, I can FINALLY go past the Old PUNCH-CARD Column-80!!! YEAH!!!!

And it is so much easier to format SQL to be pretty in the code too...

The auto format is not bad, but I prefer to format the sql code myself...

I use RPG-II once, and HATED it. To go back to old technology drove me nuts.

No disrespect meant sir.

Since you are using RDI, you are NO "Punch-Card-Fossil", you have
evolved past punch cards and RPG-II!!

Well, actually, I am still using RPG-II -- but only because that is all IBM will give us for our z/VSE mainframe. Yes, we also have Big Iron and I'm the architect guy on that platform. I can program on everything since the Z80 microchip and the CP/M operating system. I am the oldest person in my shop of over 80 people and everybody always comes to me with what they consider to be the difficult stuff. I love learning new stuff and I pick it up easy -- even now at 6 weeks to 62 years. I'm the one that keeps pushing people to RDi and the one that is trying to convince everyone to use totally-free RPG around here. I even asked the IBMi architect guy to increase the source line length of our source files (but he hasn't).

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
