Hi Jim,
The good news is that your current Authorized User license does allow you
to install RDp at home because you are the one that is licensed. That is
why you could also use the same license for the cloud install of RDp.
In either case you would have 2 copies of your workspace, the one at work
and the one you use from home (home pc or cloud). Unless of course you
choose to access the cloud version from work as well.
If you use the cloud version, the workspace resides in the virtual image
and you are able to transfer files to and from it. If you do not use local
projects and do everything from the Remote Systems Explorer, you can simply
define a connection to your IBM i and go from there. If you use local
projects then you will want to share them using RTC or some other source
control that works with Eclipse (CVS, Git).
You could either rent the cloud version for a longer period of time and
your company would probably save money versus paying for a laptop. Or you
could just use it on demand and define your connection to the host each
time.

While cloud is an interesting and workable solution for you, if your home
PC is powerful enough, it is probably a simple solution to install Rdp on
it.

Not sure if it would help in my case, but I have been dragging a laptop
between work and home for the last 4 years, and running WDSC/RDPi on it
when I need to. Now I'm giving the laptop up, but still want to run RDPi
from home occasionally. I don't think the license I have will let me have
RDP installed on both my office PC and my home PC at the same time with the
same license. I don't want to pay for my own license for home, and the
boss is not thrilled about buying another seat for occasional use at home
when I'm VPNed in once or twice a month.

Other questions are - where is the work space located, and how do I keep it
updated? Is it in the cloud as well? What kind of response would I expect
to see if using the cloud instance?

is Linux, I will need to be (somewhat) familiar with the Red Hat

to use it. I know cloud computing is trendy but I just don't see why

would bother.
