Also, just as a point of reference so you know where I'm coming from into
terms of knowledge, it's been several years since I paid any atttention
the WDSC/RAD discussions. It was just so frustrating to fail atconvincing
managers to invest in modern development tools, that I finally just putit
out of my mind.point
What we are looking for is a client tool to download source from the i,
then edit, compile, debug said source,
I seem to remember that WDSC was included in the WDS license at some
long ago. Then RAD was deemed the replacement, albeit at a very highcost
relative to WDSC.client-side
Are there any articles online that explain the current state of
development on the i, targeted at green-screen users?

A little out of date (it was done nearly 12 whole months ago!), but this
is a good introduction to the whole Rational product suite as it
pertains to IBM i development:

What you need is the RDPi tooling, which you should be able to get for
the same price as a traditional seat of ADTS (the official name for PDM,
SEU and SDA). Provided the versions are compatible, you can then
install RDPi into the same workbench as RAD.
IBM also sells this combination (RDPi and RAD) specifically as a "soft
bundle" known as Power Tools for IBM i, but I was never able to get a
clear understanding of the licensing.
