Your concerns are valid but can you just tell the editor to non display
everything between the conditional IFs?

Mark,

There are a few negatives with this approach.

1) You lose out on comment colorization.

2) Syntax checking will likely highlight those lines as errors, even
though it will pass during compilation.

3) If the block of comments is large, you need to look to the
beginning of the block to see that there is a compiler
directive. Not comfortable when RPG commenting has always been on a
line per line basis.
