We are considering an upgrade to RDi for the following reasons:

1. Support for WDSCi stops in 2010.
2. ADTS tools are stabilized. They will work with V6R1, but IBM is
making no promises for continued functionality after V6R1.
3. IBM suggested we could get discounts on RDi seats for developers
willing to give up ADTS seats.

We have a complicating factor: most of our developers that use WDSCi
continue to use PDM. WDSCi and RDi (trial version) have never worked
well for us when it comes to PDM functions. We get a lot of
communication request delays in WDSCi and RDi that really slow us down.
Operations that take us literally seconds in PDM can take us literally
minutes in RDi. We created a PMR with IBM and were told the
communication request delays are due to environmental issues. (To me,
the fact that RDi is so sensitive to environmental issues when PDM
handles them just fine represents a real weakness of RDi, but that's
another post.)

I assume that you want to upgrade to Rdi for some reason. Maybe its
because WDSCi doesn't work "fine" in V6R1. Maybe there is a feature
that
you're missing, that you want to get out of RDi. I would approach it
that
way. You could also use the "unsupported" approach, if there are
nagging
issues, that RDi might fix.

The few of us who use WDSCi here are trying to convince management that
we
should purchase a few licenses for RDi now that we've gone to V6R1. The
pushback we're getting is that WDSCi still works fine, so we need to
justify
spending the money. Has anyone else successfully done this, and if so,
what
approach did you use?

Thanks!
