It would be interesting to hear from a bigger shop that is contemplating
the move to new hardware and software. My pricing was based on a config
that may not be "real world" enough but if you had 20 developers and the
ticket, just for the tools was pushing $100,000 just to do RPG
development, I'd begin to wonder how I could justify that.
I do just a bit of RPG on this JS12. Most of my new development is in
Java so my MyEclipse installation is all I am using at present. I still
plan to press forward with EGL development which necessitates RBD rather
than RDi so the reason I got RDi and the ILE compilers was pragmatic
rather than economic: I wanted to force myself to stay in the Eclipse
development environment regardless of what I was doing. I had purchased
RBD before so I can continue to use it with any box (as far as I know).
I don't know how this stacks up with Microsoft tooling. I haven't
looked at licensing Visual Studio in years......

Oh mama. That is quite the crazy pricing! I would guess most wouldn't
need the OPM compilers, but then again I have very little exposure to
those types of customers these days so maybe it is more prominent than I
know.
