This is what I was thinking. Repartitioning the product and giving the results different names doesn't change the fact that it's an upgraded version of the same code base. There needs to be a fair and equitable (without breaking budgets that are already in place) way forward for those shops that are heavily invested in the tools.

Isn't RDI the replacement for WDSC? Here's part of the transcript. I

Rebranding WDSCi-lite to RDi and calling it a completely different
product seems a bit like calling OS/400 V5R4 i5/OS V5R4 and expecting
everyone to believe it is something different. IANAL and don't even
play one on TV but I am curious to see the wording in the maintenance
contracts for entitlements to future upgrades. I bet an attorney
specializing in class action lawsuits would like to look at this too
especially since IBM/Rational is even calling this "new" RDi product
version 7.1.

We very rarely need to place support calls and when questioned about
the need for a SWMA our BP always stresses the most important feature
of a SWMA is upgrade protection. If IBM can rebrand any product at
anytime and call it something new then what's the real value of a
SWMA?
