Ok, that doesn't sound as bad. I still think its odd to sell me the
development tools and compilers separately. What do I really need one for
if I don't have the other.
Are the per user seats for defined users or as in I can have 4 people
using it at a time, any 4. That will be an interesting thing to know.
Since the new web query is for defined users.
I also liked the option to installing WDSC on my work pc and my laptop at
no extra charge. Then when I'm away I can still connect in to get stuff
done if needed. I may be wrong , but now it sounds like that will cost me
an extra seat,

No, what they want is for the System i to survive. Unfortunately,
having unlimited seats to every possible tool included in the
single-price 5722WDS product didn't make any money. And with no money
coming in, there is no budget for development. Unlike Microsoft, whose
development is subsidized by millions and millions of copies of Windows,
there just aren't enough i5/OS sales to support free tools.
I know I sound like I'm drinking the koolaid here, but that's the truth
of the matter. Remember this: both ADTS *AND* RDi are per-seat costs
now. You have to pay for the developer. Thank the companies that
shoved 50 developers on a P05 for that move. IBM can no longer support
that development model, so they unbundled the price. If I understand
correctly, though, on a per seat basis, the graphical tools will
actually cost less per seat than the ADTS tools.
