Ewout, if you're listening, please tell the nice folks on the list that
you
have RBDe V7 working with WDSC V7.

Thanks!

Joe

Yes, I'm listening! And yes, I've got RBDE V7 working with WDSC V7.
However, I must admit that it took me a while to get things going. I
followed the instructions on the RBDE Trial download page (
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/r/rbex/). When I ran the
option Install Packages in IBM Installation Manager, I had to wait for a
long (and I mean a LONG) time, but finally a list of packages was
presented. The list contained a lot of other stuff, but RBDE was also
amongst it. I don't remember the exact sequence of windows that followed
afterwards, but finally the installation was complete. And when I started
WDSC, the capability EGL Developer was listed in Preferences -- General --
Capabilities! Victory after all! I then started out by following the
tutorial 'Introducing EGL (a quick-start guide)' (
http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/dw/rational/pdf/com.ibm.etools.egl.tutorial0001.doc.pdf).

To anyone trying to install the RDB Extension, I would give the advice to
let Installation Manager run for a long, long time. I don't know why it
took so long to get the list of packages. (However, while writing this
post, I ran Installation Manager again, and this time the list was
presented much quicker. Very strange.)

Please note that I do not want to get involved in the fierce discussions
about (in)compatibility of WDCS and RBDE going on in the mailing list. I
just wanted to react on Joe's request, because he has been very helpful in
solving the issues I have encountered.
