I'm a pretty constant user of WDSC these days - with occasional forays into SEU when it best fits my task. I take a small exception to the linkage of "more productive" with "cool, current and happy". That's not an automatic correlation.

But enough on that horse. At the RPG&DB2 Summit recently, I was part of an impromptu kind of thing - in talking with someone who has never used WDSC, at lunch, I took out my laptop, connected to my PC at work, and opened it up. Showed him what I do with it. This kind of mini-mentoring turned out to be enough to make him say he'd have to reconsider and take a look at it.

This is time-consuming, perhaps, but a good model for opening new horizons, when it can be done. The video things are reasonable replacements for this, as well as various tutorials. Don Nitke has a number of tutorials based on his experience in learning to use WDSC - and he's not with IBM. Aaron Bartell gave a casual presentation of his favorite 45 (and growing) things he likes about WDSC - Aaron, did you say it is available on www.mowyourlawn.com?

Yet, in all this, SEU is the best tool for a quick one line change. Use it! Get the job done!! Use WDSC for more extended projects that it's good for.

Excellent question. This goes well with Joe Pluta who mentions that his
classes generally do well as they are shown the way to do the things
they need.

The Netbeans folks frequently do video demos (showing their screen with
voice over explaining what we see) of their new things so people can SEE
what happens instead of just being told in words in a tutorial.

Perhaps a few cases of common tasks with such commentaries would be
immensely valuable as visual tutorials where you can always go back and
see how it was done?
