Greg,I am slowly setting up a set of permanent filters that I can use. The issue is our production source. We have so many members in it, QRPGLESRC especially, that I have to subset in order for it to be useful (and to avoid locking WDSC up for a long time). I don't know the count, but it's many thousands. Every so often I make a filter that's too all-encompassing and kick myself while I wait for it. The pitfalls of a large shop, I guess. I already have sixteen permanent filters and 5 project ones, and I've only begun.

Dave, Are you creating a new filter every time you want to open a member ? I just have a few filters set up, one for all the members in each source file we work with, and I always have the members I need right there for the clicking. If new members have been added, I just right click and refresh the filter to display the new members. One of the big pluses for me with WDSC is how much *faster* I can get to the members I need and open them than I could in SEU, especially when I need to work with several at the same time. Also, right clicking a filter and selecting "show in table view" creates a handy reference where you can see the text descriptions of your members (and even sort on the descriptions...which you can't do in PDM). Unfortunately, only one filter can be displayed in the table view at a time, but you can switch back and forth easily between them using "work with" from the black triangle/arrow thing on the right. | |RSE seems to be the difficulty for me. I'm not yet at the point where I |can |create a filter and open a member nearly as quickly as I can look in a |source file with PDM and key the option for CODE (or SEU) to open it. |Maybe |there are productivity advantages there, but I haven't achieved them yet. |I |suspect that that's the more intimidating part of WDSCi for most PDM users. |I think it's worth it for the editor, though. | |Just my thoughts. | |Dave Shaw |Mohawk Industries --This is the Websphere Development Studio Client for iSeries (WDSCI-L) mailing listTo post a message email: WDSCI-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/wdsci-l or email: WDSCI-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archivesat http://archive.midrange.com/wdsci-l.
