I have been following the threads about V7 and all and am confused and concerned at the same time.
I think most of us have been confused about this at some point. I'll try to answer your other questions, having just installed WDSC v7.
1. The CODE that is present now for Green Screen and Print Files will only be available to those who purchase the "Advanced Version" True or False?
False. You are correct that the Screen Designer plugin (which is only a tech preview, and even has a warning not to use it in a production environment from the screenshot I saw) is only available in the Advanced Version (AE). However, CoDE is still included with V7. It will not be included with V8, and it is extremely unlikely that it will ever be supported on Windows Vista.
2. Those that would need the Advanced Version are probably doing WEBSPHERE that has no Green Screens and few Print Files. True or False?
Sort of true. I assume you're referring to Websphere Application Server, and the web apps built on that platform. It's worth noting that deploying a web app does not cause OS/400 to revoke your ability to use the RPG compiler or build green screen apps, and I'm sure there must be someone out there doing both web and green screen development.
3. V7 can be selectively loaded to limit it to what is needed, leaving off WEB stuff if not needed. True or False?
True. It's great!
We ordered V7 through our BP. I am a little concerned about loading it (or trying to).
You needn't be. You can install it without affecting your V6 install - I just did so this morning.
Has the difficulty with compiling embedded SQL programs been fixed (not being able to easily correct code because of the extra RPGLE module it brings up)?
Not as far as I know.
Has the problem with converting embedded SQL within a DO/IF/For loop been fixed? Has the way I have gotten used to working around my ignorance going to have to change on a move to V7?
Sorry, I can't answer these, especially the last one. I'd suggest you install it without uninstalling version 6, and see for yourself.
