From: Bill Barnes

I have been following the threads about V7 and all and am confused and
concerned at the same time.

1. The CODE that is present now for Green Screen and Print Files will
only be available to those who purchase the "Advanced Version" True or
False?

As Violaine points out, CODE is currently present in the standard edition.
It is deprecated, meaning that no new features will be added, and it's also
not supported on Vista AFAIK.

The NEW screen designer is currently only available in the Advanced Edition.
It's not too shabby, but it has a lot of work yet to go, especially on
keywords.

2. Those that would need the Advanced Version are probably doing
WEBSPHERE that has no Green Screens and few Print Files. True or False?

Ehhhhhhhh. I think you can easily have mixed mode development that uses
both web-based applications and green screen. But in general I would agree
and would characterize the Advanced Edition as more for ground-up EJB-based
development than for maintenance and modernization of existing applications.

3. V7 can be selectively loaded to limit it to what is needed, leaving
off WEB stuff if not needed. True or False?

Installing WDSC is a piece of cake. It takes just a few minutes to start
the process, and then it runs beautifully. First, it will install the
"Install Manager", which take five or ten minutes. Once it's done with
that, it will then start the installation process for WDSC itself, at which
point you have the option to selectively install (or not install) lots of
things.

Even better, if you miss something you can easily add it later. I chose to
not install WebSphere 6.1 runtime, and then later found I needed it. I just
ran Install Manager and selected the new bits and they got installed. It's
really very, very well done.

We ordered V7 through our BP. I am a little concerned about loading it
(or trying to).

As to your concerns about the product, I suggest you load it. It will
co-exist with WDSC 6. If you don't like the new version, IBM will happily
refund your money <smile>.
