This is more of IBM not understanding its own user base. And it's really starting to get to me. This is the third time that they've pulled this bait and switch crap, and it's getting a little bit old. I'm out there evangelizing for the product for iSeries shops, and they go and pull the rug out from me yet again. How they figure someone is going to pay extra for an iSeries development tool is beyond me. Just like the WDSC move: if a tool is not worth the $3500 (or whatever) a seat for an iSeries shop, then REMOVING functionality in order to force iSeries shops to use it is as dishonest as it is foolish. From: rob@xxxxxxxxx So how about this for EGL? Let me guess, IBM figured they were bundling WDSC too cheap in WDS? I heard EGL was supposed to be the bees knees but maybe they figured that the target audience were migrations from mainframes, and, once again, those clients are used to throwing so much money at any little subset that $1,200 hammers purchased by the Pentagon sounds entirely reasonable? Or, are they planning on giving EGL away, but they just bundle it individually (tracking usage perhaps)?
