Are there any screen shots or other documentation available to see what the Application Diagrammer looks like? I'd be interested to see what it's supposed to do and why we should pay extra to get it. Obviously the decision to try and extort money for a green screen design tool is just ludicrous. Somebody at IBM has to realize that the "i" is a different box from the "z", "x" and "p", and that each requires a different sales and marketing strategy. Certainly a normal person would understand that you don't sell a Corolla the same way you sell a Corvette. In fact, it's a very close analogy: things that come standard on a luxury car are extras on an economy car, and it's time somebody at IBM learned the difference. You want us to pay extra for development tools? Then you can't charge $4000 for a gigabyte of RAM. Joe
From: Jon ParisIt really stinks that Application Diagram and Screen Designer Technology Preview are only in the Advanced Edition.I agree 100% that Screen Designer _has_ to be part of the standard package. It can only slow down adoption at a point in time where the reduced footprint will help the tools take off. The new Designer is a direct replacement for CODE Designer (and SDA of course) both of which we currently have. If IBM fail to make it generally available it just sends folks back to SDA. The Diagrammer I think is a different issue - particularly since it is the first step in producing more comprehensive tools. Would I like it to be free of charge? Yes - but if IBM charge a reasonable amount for it that is OK too. But the word "reasonable" means a maximum of 3 digits per seat and the first digit should be around a 3 or a 4! Sadly Software group still seem to be able to persuade mainframe customers that $3,000 + a seat is a reasonable price for tools such as this and that mentality pervades their WDSC thinking.
