Conversion to Free Form problem

This is not something that happens all the time, just most of the time.
When I go to convert the following code to Free;

C/exec sql

     C+    Declare Str_Merch

     C+    Cursor For

     C+     Select *

     C+    From Ptdmrch

     C+    Where Txdate In(:CurTxdate,:PrvTxdate)

     C+      And Store = :Gps.Pm_Stor

     C+      And Mtype = 'M'

     C+      And Period = :CurPeriod

     C+    Order By Txdate

     C/end-exec

 

     C/exec sql Open Str_Merch

     C/end-exec

 

     C                   IF        Sqlstt = '24502'

     C/exec sql Close Str_Merch

     C/end-exec

     C/exec sql Open Str_Merch

     C/end-exec

     C                    ENDIF       

  

I get this;

      /FREE

       exec sql

          Declare Str_Merch

          Cursor For

           Select *

          From Ptdmrch

          Where Txdate In(:CurTxdate,:PrvTxdate)

            And Store = :Gps.Pm_Stor

            And Mtype = 'M'

            And Period = :CurPeriod

          Order By Txdate;

 

       exec sql Open Str_Merch;

 

       IF Sqlstt = '24502';

     C/  ec sql Close Str_Merch;  <-- It dropped the XE

     C/  ec sql Open Str_Merch;

       ENDIF;

      /END-FREE

 

Definitely not a show stopper, just annoying.
