Thanks, Dave, I appreciate the effort. BTDT - had downloaded the ZIP file -
followed instructions - get errors that some stinking file is missing when
searching for updates. Point the updater to the default - different file
reported missing. Downloaded the PTFs - see no evidence that they have anything
to do with 6.0.1.2 but, you know - besides, I am using the Advanced Edition,
and I don't see a distinction for that in the files installed with the PTFs.
And using the policy.xml from the PTFs got me another missing file error. So
now there is some nonsense about having to update the updater - I think I have
the version it wants to put me. I can't roll back fix installs, get other
errors about missing items.

So you can understand my deep frustration. As I told the IBM support person,
please close this PMR - I don't have to mess with this anymore.

:-(

An IBM'r told me to go here:

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=715&context=SSZND2&dc=D410&d
c=D430&dc=D400&dc=D420&dc=DB550&q1=WDSC+6.0.1&uid=swg24010773&loc=en_US&
cs=utf-8&lang=en

And NOT use the one offered in the Update module... He said the Update
module has "problems".

Adam - you say you got the first update to work - well, so did I. Then I
heard about the mirror site thing, and that never worked nicely. Then I
wanted to get the latest - 6.0.1.2 - I have 6.0.1.1 - and that has never
worked with the Updater. I sincerely hope you have better luck than I
have. I flatly refuse to waste any more time - I have spent way too much
of it over the last several MONTHS from time trying to do this. And this
in spite of the fact that I know there are things that would make life a
little better with the (insert expletive of choice) thing.

Seriously, does anyone else think the product is/will become so
complex
and
all-inclusive that no one will get the whole picture? That it will
become
"Windowized" in that we will be thrashing? (Meaning spending more
time keeping the product current and working than doing actual
constructive
work
for our business.)

I think the complexity is frustrating sometimes too. It can be
difficult just to figure out which version of a particular component
you are using.
I hope this will be ameliorated somewhat by the next release, which is

supposed to be a 'componentized' install - ie, if all you do is RPG
development, you only install Eclipse, RSE and forget about the rest.

As for update troubles, I haven't really had too much trouble with
this.
Rational Product Updater 'just works' as far as I am concerned. We
also managed to download the first fixpack for version 6 and update
all of the developers without downloading for hours each time. The
only problem I've seen is that the 'updating workbench' portion of the

RPU process takes *forever*. I just do the updates overnight, or
during a meeting, and then it doesn't waste time.
