I also find the update manager does a swell job. I just open up the Rational Product Updater, select the "Updates" tab, and I usually get the following error: Network connection problems encountered during search. Unable to access "http://www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/updater/60/ update/site.xml". Error parsing site stream. [An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x5c) was found in the public identifier.] So then, I just open a web browser, plug in the address from the error, and see that I successfully get to the document it is referencing, which doesn't look like much in the web browser, but that's not important. Then I minimize the web browser, go back to the update manager and click the update tab again. This time it brings me any available updates, and I can just follow the normal procedure to install them from there.
