Thanks for the info Adrian. I had forgotten that there was no way of remapping keys - I know the 'User Key Actions' didn't work but I was hoping there was some other way. I might even be willing to work on the plugin code if I had to and I could figure out how to build plugins. I know Java but tried creating a plugin once and couldn't get it to build properly. Well ... it doesn't in the version of vi that I have on my home PC. I think it is technically 'VI iMproved' or 'vim', so maybe this is one of the differences between vi and vim. Any time I've used vi(m), for example when editing Perl code, if I hit enter at the end of a line it auto-indents and continues in insert mode. Here is an example of what happens for me. WDSC v5.1.2.5 Build: 20050622_0933 (I hope to have v6 soon!) Ctrl+Shift+I to create a new member for testing (just in case something with existing members is causing the problem). Create an RPGLE member AGLIB/QRPGLESRC(TESTVI). 'Member does not exist' error pops up. I tell it to create the member on the iSeries. I enter the LPEX command 'set updateProfile.baseProfile vi' I enter the LPEX command 'updateProfile' I click on the first row and column of the source member to begin editing. I type 'llllli' to start inserting in the 'Format type' column 6 (those small are L's). So I know that vi keyhandler is working. I type 'H bnddir('VITEST')' followed by the enter key. Now the cursor is in the second column, first row and I'm in command mode. I think the format type should be repeated (I've set this up in the LPEX preferences) and the cursor should be in column 8, below the 'b' in 'bnddir'. Similar results are found when editing free-form code. Thanks for your interest in my problem, Adam P.S. - Should we take this off list if no one else is interested, or keep it on list for the archives? I'm new to the list and don't know the etiquette yet. adrian <stori@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: wdsci-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx 24/03/2006 02:55 PM Please respond to Websphere Development Studio Client for iSeries <wdsci-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To wdsci-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx cc Subject Re: [WDSCI-L] Indent Feature In the vi profile you cannot redefine key actions from the preferences. Due to vi's nature, it uses a special key handler. Enter ?vi on any LPEX command line for additional information. [n]>> and [n]<< to indent and unindent in vi seem to work for me. I'll take a look at the 'enter' key. It's not supposed to go back to command mode? I confess I'm not a vi expert (quite the opposite :-)).
